At this point I am in the initial stages of Webpage design. I wish I knew that aspect of teaching online as well as I know my subject matter. In that case I would not only have fantastic courses on how to reach hearts and minds with visual illustrations that are able to make Gospel messages memorable and appealing, but an electronic platform easy for both our students and I to use.
Please be patient. By the Grace of God, our new resource, designed to help you make sharing your Christian faith with others fun, exciting, memorable, and life-changing for both you and those you minister to, should be up and running in a month or so.
In the meantime please keep us (the developers, instructors, & administrators) and the Gospel Illustrator website itself, in your prayers.
If you are looking to add outstanding visual and word picture illustrations that will sharpen your skills in either personal or public evangelism you have come to the right place. If you wish to preach to thousands as a pastor or evangelist, lead a youth rally, present a children’s story, work with a Vacation Bible School, teach an adult or children’s Bible class, start a career as a Christian public speaker or entertainer, or simply witness more effectively to your family, friends, or co-workers then the Gospel Illustrator is here to help make that possible.
[NOTE: As this website develops, this page will be broken up into many indexed pages of short clips. These will be illustrated with pictures and videos. That will not only make its points much clearer and appealing, but it will also begin to demonstrate the kinds of visual illustrations Gospel Illustrator is all about. Until then, please bear with this long mono-paged rough draft. I sincerely hope that even in this form it will excite and inspire you with the anticipation of things to come.]
Gospel Illustrator Visual Evangelism School will teach you how to reach our now highly visually oriented, short attention spanned, multitasking, inquisitive, confused but truth seeking world through selected varieties of appealing, stimulating, inspiring, memory riveting, challenging, often fast paced, life changing visuals that make the Gospel easier to understand, believe, and take action upon. Using the visualized, soul winning methods developed by Gospel Illustrator, will help you as evangelists, pastors, youth ministers, and lay workers engaged in Christian ministries (or those wanting to be engaged in this work) to become superior communicators to the current and emerging generations for years to come.
Gospel Illustrator will give you the basics that will allow you to develop your own unique style and methods of illustrating the gospel that will be unique to you. The skeletal principles and some of the techniques provided by the classes will become a solid biblical foundation for the development of your own well crafted presentations, sermons, messages, or personal witnessing tools.
Gospel Illustrator’s core classes help make sure that each of the message presentations you learn to develop will properly couple with the accompanying visuals you learn to design. It is critical that these messages will be in harmony with the Bible and the spirit of the Gospel as understood by your own Christian faith tradition, and that in turn, these messages will be rightly understood by the variety of specific cultures to whom you may be called upon to minister.
This is why our curriculum contains more than the electives in a wide variety of visual communication arts. The electives range from fine arts to drama, public speaking to Christian comedy, puppets to the pulpit, object lessons to science experiments, optical illusions to “magical” grand illusions, flip books to slide shows to video clips, demonstrations to fully engaged participation events, and many other artistic, scientific, technical, and entertainment based methods and mediums to get and keep people’s focus and attention. These must also make sure you know which mediums to use and how to present them to audiences of differing ages, backgrounds, cultures, existing belief systems, worldviews and more.
For these reasons, our core classes deal with how to witness and teach in a variety of cultural contexts at home and abroad (Missiology). Visual and verbal illustrations are only as good as the messages they present. Therefore, our students need to be grounded in how to clearly understand what the Bible teaches (Hermeneutics) and how that is to be understood in Christian, but practical human terms (Theology).
Skills in Public Speaking and Homiletics (covering liturgical and non-liturgical public speaking in church settings) are also critical to public presentations of the Word of God. Knowing what to present, or even which visuals will appeal to and help focus your particular audience of one or thousands, is of little value unless the message is well organized and clearly and well spoken. This is why these are also core classes here at Gospel Illustrator along with topics on personal and public evangelism and witnessing.
Because our students come from a variety of Christian faith backgrounds, each of our courses will also address numerous traditions and biblical perspectives. This aspect, coupled with discussions among students, should provide a better understanding of each tradition, thus not only enriching and improving our own Christian biblical worldview, but sharpening our skills addressed more fully in another class, Apologetics. Although, the focus of that class will be primarily upon reaching unbelievers and those of non-Christian faiths or worldviews.
Once the backdrop of the introductory core classes has been set, then the curtains can be opened on the equally (some say more) fun and exciting electives of the visual arts, for which the school was name. At that point, you will be well on your way to becoming certified Gospel Illustrators yourselves.
Our site is being built to be a place of personal development, fellowship, and equipping for ministry. A place where both unaffiliated and denominationally affiliated protestant Christians will be comfortable learning and working together to share the wonderful message of salvation with the world.
Perhaps in the future we will have the time, and the leading of the Lord in the spirit of ecumenism, to develop another site for those who love and wish to serve God better, but whose theology is outside of the protestant perspectives. For now, we must walk in faith, one step at a time.
As it is, together we will have a great enough spectrum of ideas and ideals to both challenge and sharpen us, as Proverbs 27:17 recommends, so that we may become better friends, persons, and students of the Word.
“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Prov.27:7 NIV
“As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” NKJV
“As iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens [and influences] another [through discussion].” AMP
At Gospel Illustrator Visual Evangelism School, working together we will be united by certain simple, common ground, foundational biblical beliefs that we no doubt already hold in common. These core values will be expressed in our statement of beliefs (not yet posted). Upon these, all students accepted and all faculty will be in agreement. However, on other points of style, theology, hermeneutics, or doctrines not covered by the statement, we will covenant to be agreeable in discussions, temperament, and demeanor as we thoughtfully and prayerfully encourage one another to develop their own style, content, message, and methods of illustrating the varied paths of their own faith perspectives, in harmony with the teachings of their own chosen protestant faith community.
To the extent possible, we will all try to understand the reasoning, vocabulary, wording, and presuppositions of others here. Thereby we can gain a better understanding of our own faith in light of the teachings of the Bible, and collectively, our varied contemporary contexts. Through these studies and interactions, our own logic and illustration skills should see vast improvements. In this way, even our apologetics will be better grounded in the Word and more persuasive too. But undoubtedly all will graduate from their core classes and chosen series of Gospel Illustrator courses, blessed, enriched, and empowered by their experiences and in turn, ready to mightily bless their churches and the world.
No matter how much we train or learn it must be remembered that it is not us. We work in vain to build up anything that we have not put the Lord first in doing and trust in His leading (Psalm 127:1). We are but humble vessels through which the work of the Spirit may be done, we are not alone, but let us strive to be noble and worthy vessels (Jeremiah 18:3-4; Romans 9:21; Acts 24:16); to press on in doing all the Lord has put in our cooperative power to accomplish in Christ (1Corinthians 9:24-25) as we press toward that mark of our high calling (Philippians 4:13) knowing that it is Christ who is working in us and Who empowers us beyond the wildest of our fondest thoughts or dreams (Phil. 2:13; Ephesians 3:17-21). It is Jesus who has given us His Great Commission (Matthew 28: 18-21) and having called us, will equip us (Hebrews 13: 20-21) in the Word (2Timothy 3:16-17) and in action, which is the work to which you are now called:
11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Eph.4:11-13 NIV).
Gospel Illustrator is called to assist you in your walk with God that He may do the work in you through Christ Jesus of building up his Church (His people, His called out ones) now for eternity. So, when enrollment opens for our first class term scheduled for this fall, sign up before spaces fill up.
